A Shadow's Duty

Hide, I am in need of your assistance!

In order to aid in the retreat of one of our allies, Hanzo was dispatched to hamper the Takeda army's pursuit. However, he did not return at the appointed time, which has long since passed.

While I doubt that someone of Hanzo's talents could be easily bested, I worry that something might have befallen him. After all, the yokai have been appearing in ever greater numbers of late. Please, would you help us find him?

I will repay this debt to you, I swear.

I succeeded in drawing them off, but once I was surrounded by those yokai, I thought it was all over for me. Happily, it did not come to that.

In any case, I managed to pin down the enemy army enough to let our allies make an escape.

But it seems that lords other than Azai are starting to make use of the power of the yokai. If that is the case, then many tough battles lie ahead. We need to be prepared.

A Shadow's Duty Walkthrough

Find Hattori Hanzo

Players return in Amegawa where it was said that Hattori Hanzo has not returned from the time he was dispatched to stop Takeda's army. Your task is to find and help him. When you arrive, you'll see the shrine for this mission. Open the door ahead and you'll find yourself back at the fort section of this location. Check the room on the left and you'll see a soldier looting a corpse that you can search for an item. You'll also encounter another soldier if you climb the nearby ladder to the top. The fort is pretty much guarded by Takeda's forces.

At the top, exit the door and head into the building across where you'll encounter a rifle-wielding soldier and spear wielder. Kill both soldiers and then jump down from the hole on the ground to find a large chest. Head outside after opening the chest and unlock the gate that's on the right to open the path leading back to the starting point. But before doing so, you'll want to check each corner and each open building that you see to farm for gold, amrita, as well as looting corpses to grab some items. There aren't really any other collectibles for this sub-mission.

When that's done, check the building that's on the left side and you'll find the area to be engulfed with the dark realm. The yokai inside the building are Gaki, Aberrant Soldier, Warrior Skeleton, Rokurokubi, Enki. Basically, you need to open the gates to reach the entrance of the fort (if you remember, the second shrine during the main mission: Corpses and Ice). Behind the main gate of the fort, is the Namahage which holds the source of the dark realm.

After clearing the fort and killing the Namahage, check inside the house where the Namahage was patrolling where you'll find Hattori Hanzo, exhausted and catching his breath. Speak to him to complete this mission and he'll also give you 1x Shinobi Box.
