Akechi Mitsuhide is an NPC in Nioh 2. NPCs are characters that can be interacted with or are shown in the game. NPCs are characters that add contrast to the game's lore where they provide information, some are categorized as quest givers, while others are categorized as Merchants whom you can trade with or request for certain services.
Akechi Mitsuhide Information
Akechi Mitsuhide is a vassal of the Oda clan. While he is often said to have been born in Mino Province (modern-day Gifu prefecture), his true place of birth is unknown. After the fall of the Saito clan, Mitsuhide's talent was spotted by Oda Nobunaga, and he came to enter Nobunaga's service. Some believe that he met Nobunaga while acting in his temporary capacity as envoy to the shogun Ashikaga Yoshiaki. After joining the Oda clan, Mitsuhide's education and skill in military tactics earned him Nobunaga's trust, allowing him to rise through the ranks at prodigious speed.
Mitsuhide possessed some knowledge of Onmyo Magic, and believed that misuse of the Spirit Stones would only lead to chaos, whereas his duty was to maintain the world in a state of harmony. While acting as a general in the Oda clan's assault on the Asakura clan, he identifies Tokichiro's usage of the Spirit Stones as a risk, and secretly plans to eliminate him. However, he wrongly assumes that Tokichiro has already been killed in the rear guard, and calls off his plan.
Having appointed Hideyoshi to an even more prominent position, Nobunaga grew even more disposed to using the Spirit Stones to achieve his goal to national unification. Mitsuhide felt deeply conflicted between his loyalty to Nobunaga and what he felt was right. He eventually decided that Nobunaga must die and instigated the Homroji Incident, not realizing that the true mastermind of these event was the man with the staff.
When Mitsuhide is eventually defeated by Tokichiro's army, he is fully prepared for his death at the hands of the protagonist. However, the protagonist has decided to go their seperate ways from Tokichiro, and the two of them escape to Mikawa in the hope of seeking aid from the Tokugawa clan.
Mitsuhide discards his old identity and becomes known as Tenkai, instructing the protagonist in Onmyo Magic. Sen no Rikyu, who shares Tenkai’s ambitions, joins Tenkai in secretly lending the protagonist their aid as the protagonist goes to war against Tokichiro.
