Enemy Description
- Fujiwara no Yasamusa is a nobleman from the mid-Heian period. While he is not one of Minamoto no Yorimitsu’s retainers, he is said to have been present when Yorimitsu and her companions defeated Shuten Doji.
- While being a member of the aristocracy, he is also greatly skilled in combat, and is famously said to have used his military might to overwhelm the bandit chief Hakamadre. He is also famous for having married the poet Izumi Shikibu. The couple’s love story is the inspiration for Hosho-Yama, on of the floats that feature at Kyoto’s Gion Festival.
- Yasumasa and the protagonist bump into each other when they are both seeking out a famous plum tree in the palace grounds. While Yasumasa doesn’t explicitly say why he is looking for the tree, the protagonist guesses Yasumasa’s motives and generously offered him the branch of plum blossoms they acquire. In truth, Yasumasa has been hoping to win Izumi Shikibu’s heart with the exquisite flowers.
- When the protagonist agrees to battle the Four Guardians, they also end up fighting Yasumasa, who often lent aid to the great warriors during their lifetime, Yasumasa is eventually defeated by the protagonist.
