Gyuki is a Boss and Enemy in Nioh 2. Gyuki is a spider Yokai that attacks using his body and claws
Enemy Description
Gyuki is an enormous yokai with the legs of a spider and head of a bull. It is both savage and cruel, and is known to spit poison to incapacitate its human prey before devouring those it has killed with relish. It is often connected to water in legends, with many eyewitness reporting seeing Gyuki by beaches, deep pools, or the bases of waterfalls. Many of these places are name after Gyuki in Western Japan.
To such a monstrous yokai, a human being is nothing more than its next meal. Even those who make a living from slaying yokai are put to the test when forced to face a Gyuki in battle. The most dangerous threat it poses is it’s deadly poison. Its blood and bodily secretions are just as toxic as the poisonous fog it generates. To prevail in battle against a Gyuki, one must skillfully avoid its blood, whether spattered from a wound or pooled on the ground, and outmaneuver it at all costs.
There are all kinds of tales about this bovine yokai. In some, it curses its victims with an incurable illness, or anyone who is unlucky enough to see it is stricken with disease. In others, it transforms into a woman with wings, swooping down on its victims from the sky. Perhaps the most unusual tale of all is one in which a Gyuki is said to have saved a man who owed it a favor. Legend has it that after saving this man, Gyuki said, “Saving a man’s life requires another to be taken in exchange,” and vanished, having sacrificed itself.

How to Beat Gyuki
Gyuki Boss Guide:
Gyuki can be very intimidating at first but there are many strategies that can be used to make this fight easier.
At the start of the fight you will want to head to his rear legs (the ones with Amrita) and attack them until the Amrita breaks. This will cause both Health and Ki damage.
Note: Remember to use your guard each time he performs an attack. There is a delay between his attacks so even if you run out of Ki you will be able to recover for the next attack.
Once you are done with the legs there are two strategies that you can use to fight him:
1) Stay under his belly or rear part and attack him. He can only use two attacks from his belly or rear (Belly Attack and Stomp Attack). Just keep attacking him until you see he is about to strike. Then use your guard to avoid the damage (even if your Ki is depleted he won't be able to use a second strike). He will occasionally turn around and try to face you. When this happens run to his belly again and repeat until the boss is defeated.
2) The other way to beat him is staying at a distance and luring his burst attack. The burst attack can be easily countered and provides a good opportunity to deal damage. This strategy is slower and will require more time but can be effective if you can avoid his ranged attacks. After you counter him, deal some damage, run away and repeat.
3)He will try to face you to swing his front legs if you are near his front, but you can take advantage of the AI for this. If you stand underneath the shoulder joint for one of the front legs, you can shift your target lock to the rear leg on the other side. This will keep you next to his body, and you will be able to rotate with him and attack as you please while he tries to target you. Occasionally, he will jump away to try and reposition himself, or jump up and slam down on you. Back away, get back into position and repeat until he dies.
Attacks & Counters
Attack | Counter |
Phase 1 | |
Dual Hit: He will use the claws to perform a two hit combo in front of him. | You want to stay away from his head, try to dodge forward and avoid the second strike. |
Stomp Attack: He will raise his legs and perform a powerful stomp over the player. | Use your guard to prevent the damage. Even if you run out of Ki, he won't be able to perform a second attack. |
Belly Attack: He will jump and strike down with his belly. | Use your guard to prevent the damage. Even if you run out of Ki, he won't be able to perform a second attack. |
Grapple Attack: He will perform a powerful grapple attack forward | Try to stay away from his head. If you are at a medium distance run backwards. |
Poison Breath: He will throw a poison cloud that moves straight in front of him. | Dodge left or right to avoid the cloud. |
Ice Breath: He will throw Ice Breath from his mouth | Dodge left or right to avoid the ray. |
Burst Attack: He will quickly move forward dealing massive damage. | If you are at a distance, you can time a counter burst to stop him and deal massive Ki damage. |
Notes & Trivia
- If you have unlocked the Enhanced Shrapnel Bomb skill in the Ninjutsu skill tree, you can take advantage of its size to let most of the bombs hit dealing massive damage from the start.
- Memories - “I thought there was no one I could not chew up and spit out…The world is not as I thought it was.”
- Destroying the two crystal clusters on the back two legs knock it down and let you get a lot of free hits in, and makes the fight easier

Not fun. I'm sure there's strategies to make it easy as mentioned in other comments, but all I am noticing is the camera work is atrocious here. I keep dying off screen, no clue what is happening.

He seems to get lightning build up pretty quick relative to fire

A piercing bow with exploding arrows from ninjutsu was able to take out 50% of Gyuki's health when firing from point blank and stun lock him for 2 Ki bars worth without having broken his legs. Unfortunately I had no sacred arrows left or else it would have been even more efficient.
From there I switched to using a rifle to take out the remaining 49% of his HP and finally managed to finish him with a lucky grab attack.

the guide to beat him is so out of date, i try to move behind him but he's always facing me

scaffolds are a giant bait, break the legs (it's worth the risk because it allows you to do a ton of damage up front) then just slowly whittle away at him & finish with a yokai form grapple after breaking his stamina bar

garbage boss. the "jumps" don't even look like jumps, he just floats in the air for a few seconds before telleporting back down

If you can get a bow with the penetrating arrows prefix, have the explosive arrows jutsu active, and a full quiver of sacred arrows - you can break him before he even reaches you as the combo flattens his ki/anima bar allowing you to perform an execution. Even if he recovers, he can be broken again just as quickly.

Retarded design, put the people who made this **** in front of the firing squad lmao

*Hits blunt* what if Gaping Dragon was a cow...AND a spider!

So damn easy with ninjutsu. All you need are feathers and explosive bolts. Feral yokai is must to counter burst attacks. Before entering the fight take antitoxin pill and apply explosive bolt jutsu. Switch to sacred arrows, every hit will apply both purity and fire element to gyuki. Enter the arena and as he is slowing walking towards you unload all the arrows untill confusion is applied. Then spam fire and lightning feathers it will die in seconds.

>Use Hatchets
>Spam Eagle's Shadow while next to him
>Win
He gets so destroyed by this spam, I managed to apply Corruption on him despite his resistance. That skill is meh to kinda neat for the most part, however against that boss and its large hurtbox, it absolutely shreds. Sadly, it doesn't work on Daidara Bochi and Lady Osakabe.

Stay around his shoulder/belly and you will avoid most attacks, simply reposition when he jumps away. Can go for his legs if you can time dodging his stomps, I was **** at it. As long as you minimize the time you are directly in front of him, fight shouldn't be too hard.

after continuously trying to play it smart and attack his legs, the first down was when i just stuck as close as possible and kept swinging at his face.

Not only is this boss annoying and unfun on multiple levels, it's also terribly balanced. RIP fist builds.

This boss.. if you're using fists the quickest way I found to be done with that ugliness is to spam limitless over and over again on his side, dodge when he jumps... or don't, just heal and get back to the spam.
That boss must have been aborted, the 2 jumping attack spots are useless, breaking the crystal on his legs is pointless. Poor ugly guy should have been put to rest.

Just hide behind his front legs and poke out during attack recovery. For wing part, same strategy. 14th try, this boss is a lot of fun and my favourite Yokai boss.
- Anonymous
So, you can get a hidden trophy if you manage to break the dam on the opposite side of where you enter the arena using this ugly bastards charge attack before he gets wings.

Didn’t know about the scaffold trick up until now. I’ve bested it a lot nonetheless. Always fighting it mano e... f*ck-ugly beast..o.

Use the Enki Yokai Skill "Monkey Dance" on his head. Maybe it was a bug but it depleted his whole ki gauge and then i could perform the stun attack. Worked like a charm

Does anyone else think Saika Magoichi would've been a better final boss for the mission? Gyuki is just boring and he's an eyesore, lmao.

Easy peasy fight. Did this flawlessly after 10 attempts just to get his moveset down. Pop lightning amulet, caltrops, sloth and weakness talismans and hang under his belly with low stance and just follow his turning direction while whacking him. The caltrop slow, lightning slow, and sloth talisman will almost guarantee he wont be able to turn as fast as you can walk, then just do your ki pulses and continue the onslaught. Dropped him to half health before he even got to dark realm phase

Boss is no fun to fight, whether you find it hard or easy. I do love his soul core though. Was a mainstay for my water mage/saturation build. Although going back to fight him numerous times to get updated soul cores was very not fun

Guys, this boss is extremely easy if you ignore his mechanics (scaffolds for drop attacks; his rear amrita legs) Simply position yourself in his side, close to his middle legs, and keep hacking... Move only to reposition yourself, since he can move around quite rapidly 90% of his moves dont reach this position, and those who do (like the ground slam), can be easily blocked with low ki consumption! good luck!

After shattering his back legs instead of grappling him, I used Raijin feathers 3-4 casts he was dead

The mission with this boss is bull*****first you have to fight that Saika Guy that is a pretty challenging boss and then you go against this thing.
- Anonymous
You can use the scaffolding to drop attack on his head. This stuns him and allows you to do some good damage
- Anonymous
Id rather fight Bed of Chaos for 12 hours than ever fight this thing again

This bosses attacks will sometimes pass right through you, how that made it past testing is beyond me. Also the least fun boss in Nioh 2 from what I've played.

There was some sort of glitch with this boss. After I defeated it and went in to the Yokai illustrations section it said I had defeated it twice.

Didn't struggle because I used Ninjutsu Bombs - Iga Shrapnel/Iga Enhanced Shrapnel and melted him. In your face, Saint Saturn!
