Hatchets are Weapons in Nioh 2. This weapon works in conjunction with the Hatchet Skills skill tree. Hachet weapons scale best with the Skill stat, but also scale from Courage and Magic. This page covers a full list of Hatchets in Nioh 2 and information about their stats.

Quick Summary
  • A unique high mobility projectile weapon that gives you a safe offense at all ranges at the cost of close range damage.
Pros
  • The largest set of mobility options among weapons.
  • Deadly Spiral is a house of a skill:
-Really strong synergy with the elemental arcana Custom Active Skills, applying many of them in one use.
-The hatchets continue to fly on their own, increasing your damage overall as you do other attacks.
    -Has wide horizontal range.
    -Very solid for block pressure.
  • Piercing Hurl: Light can essentially be described as using Iai Quickdraw II but with over twice the range.
  • The majority of it's attacks allow you to use Item Ki Pulse Cancels.
  • Very powerful ranged options. You can primarily fight with only the projectile attacks, which is safe albeit low damage.
  • Solid Anima Fill with Dual Hawks.
  • Very strong off-hand weapon, with two solid active skills to either chase down enemies or create space, and a Flash Attack that allows you to quickly continue your offense.
  • High Block Stat.
Cons
  • Lacks Ki damage on hit. Wild Surge II is one of the highest ki damage active skills in the game but is very slow, and Demon Undercut is also fairly slow for the lack of range it has.
  • It has an unconventional and unintuitive playstyle. It definitely doesn't play like any other weapon.
  • Slow sheath time for using the sheathed attacks it has from a Ki pulse. No other weapon with sheathed attacks has this downside. You can counter act this either by quickly switching to and from the weapon (or just switching to it, if it's your offhand weapon) or by sheathing your weapon and canceling the animation by moving.

Hatchets are a very unique weapon, with high mobility and mercurial range. Despite its looks, it's more similar to the Axe and Kusarigama than the Dual Swords. While it does have speed like the Dual Swords, those attacks aren't rewarding and have low range, while the really powerful attacks require setup like the Axe. However, it has several ranged attack options, similar to the Kusarigama, though with greater control over your own spacing - rather than being a means to an end, it's a core part of your strategy with the weapon.

Its melee attacks have barely more reach than the Fists, but the main attraction is it's many throwing techniques, which reach farther than nearly any other weapon and better recovery and damage than the longer range Splitstaff and Kusarigama attacks. On top of having low range, the health and Ki damage of its close range attacks are below average compared to other weapons, especially since it lacks a proper strong attack string, so if you don't have enough time for Demon Undercut you won't be able to do large Ki damage. That said, it has several useful crowd control skills like Dragonfly II and Deadly Spiral, and many attacks that allow you to easily reposition while attacking like Mountain Climber II, Boulder Breaker, and Biting Hail, as well as attacks that close the distance very quickly, again while attacking, such as Wild Surge II and Greased Lightning. This amounts to a weapon that can mount relevant offense from any range, allowing you the opportunity to constantly deal damage even while evading. As an offhand weapon, you gain quick access to both of it's sheathed options, giving any weapon strong mobility tools, as well as it's unique Flash Attack, which lets you continue after with the remainder of the Hatchet's mid stance quick attack string.

Below is a list of Hatchets in Nioh 2, and each Hatchets has an effect that will ALWAYS be present, no matter what other random bonuses there may be. These effects are listed in the "effect" column. Damage values are not listed since these change by rarity and level, making it difficult to compare them easily. Break and Block are listed, since these do not change with rarity or level.

Every Weapon in the game has Familiarity. The better quality of the weapon, the more Familiarity can be obtained with the weapon, and over time the damage and bonuses of the weapon will improve as the Familiarity increases up to a maximum. This way, using the same weapon over time can yield higher damage than another, even if it's lower level.
