Ho-oh is a Guardian Spirit in Nioh 2. Guardian Spirits can be selected on the Shrine menu and each provides a different boost to the player. Activate Yokai Shift by pressing △ + O (B + Y on Xbox/Steam controller) when the Amrita Gauge is full.

Ho-oh Description

A Birdlike Guardian Spirit that has characteristics of various creatures. It is the female counterpart of the legendary paired sacred birds known as Ho-oh. Regarded as the ruler of all winged creatures, Ho-oh is said to appear with the arrival of a virtuous monarch. Because of this, many believed that Ho-oh protects those blessed with talent, virtue, and a pure will.

Ho-oh motifs were incorporated into many buildings and works of art in continental Asia in order to show respect for the kind of virtue that Ho-oh guarded. This custom was transmitted to Japan, where buildings features the same motif. Some of these building still stand, with the Phoenix Hall of Byodo-In to the south of Kyoto being one famous example.

While the female and male counterparts of Ho-oh each represent the yin and yang elements of Onmyo respectively, as a pair, they are said to represent taiji, the force that gave birth to the universe and all living things within it.

How to unlock Ho-oh

• Automatically unlocked when you obtain Ho and Oh.

How to use Ho-oh

• It's guardian spirit skill is both Ho and Oh doing their respective skills at the same time.
• Calming Breath will continuously restore 8% of your health per second as long as you haven't aggro'd any enemy, ensuring that you will remain at full health between fights.
• This is tied for the highest attunement slots in the game with Baku and Sohaya, and has the highest among Phantom Guardian Spirits.
• The bonuses are solid for a Purity based build.
