Imperial Ward is a Set in Nioh 2. The Imperial Ward Set provides various special benefits to players: the more pieces you equip from one set, the stronger the bonuses. Some sets are comprised of armor only, but others have armor and weapons, making for sets that have up to 7 bonuses.

In Way of the Nioh, Ethereal versions of the set will gain an additional bonus when you reach the final tier of bonuses, denoted as (X+ Items); see Set Bonuses for more details.

as soon as you have access to this set you should instantly get it and here is why: the bonuses are kinda misleading and it can be a bit tricky to understand what makes this so good, pretty much all but one of the bonuses are meaningless, the only skill you care about is "Anima Bonus (Purified Enemy) A", this is the big one. getting this skill on a yokai core is actually dream of the nioh exclusive, you can trust me, i have farmed cores for hours in lesser difficulties, you cannot get this skill before dream of the nioh, the only way to get it is by using this set. also nowhere in the game does it tell you how strong this effect is, even the wikis dont tell you. "anima bonus on x element enemy" is actually the best anima gain effect in the game by far, other effects that say "anima gain up by 20%" or whatever the % number might be are all completely worthless by comparison, you will not notice those effects at all, but you will definitely notice the effect from this armor, combine this with the otakemaru soul core which has the same effect on confused enemy, use one of the purity guardian spirits like ho, oh, or ho oh. then fight any random boss that can be afflicted by confusion, which are almost all but nightmare bringer and the final boss from the first dlc forgot his name, inflict purity with guardian spirit talisman and confusion by inflicting the element the boss is weak to and you will notice that you will have pretty much infinite anima as long as you are attacking the boss constantly. ideally you wanna also inherit the effect for a different element from a soul core to your weapon and also have some on your other soul cores as well for even bigger anima gains, but otakemaru plus this set should be good enough since its easy to get and doesnt require random skills that you probably wont get.

        An very solid set imo.
        - Very Easy to farm
        - Good Purity Bonuses with Purity already being strong
        - Solid defenses due to its weight
        - Combos well with Ho Oh (good Guardian Spirit)
        - Works with every weapon
        - Very strong extra-bonus in DotN
Only downside are the high stat requirements in addition to its weight (less of a problem in ng+ and beyond)
