Matsunaga Hisahide is an NPC in Nioh 2. NPCs are characters that can be interacted with or are shown in the game. NPCs are characters that add contrast to the game's lore where they provide information, some are categorized as quest givers, while others are categorized as Merchants whom you can trade with or request for certain services.
Matsunaga Hisahide Information
Matsunaga Hisahide, often known as Danjo, is a military commander based in Yamato Province (modern-day Nara Prefecture). He was known as quite the villain, employing all manner of questionable methods to expand his powers around Kyoto. Some of these methods included the betrayed and murder of his own masters, the Miyoshi clan, and the banishment of the Ashikage shogun clan from the capital.
Despite his knack for betrayal and trickery, he was also known as a great lover of the arts, particularly the way of tea. He had a great collection of rare tea utensils that he had sought out himself.
Hisahide did not actually care all that much for power or influence, and lived life as his whims dictated. He became a vassal of the Oda clan in the hope of benefiting from Oda Nobunaga's power, which grew as Nobunaga advanced toward the capital. When Nobunaga was forced to retreat from Kanegasaki due to Azai Nagamasa's treason, Hisahide stepped in to assist Nobunaga, guiding him to safety.
With time, however, Hisahide grew disgusted by Nobunaga's use of the Spirit Stones to wage his wars. Angered by Hisahide, Nobunaga laid siege to him in his castle. Faced with imminent death, Hisahide blew himself up, taking his beloved Hiragumo tea kettle with him.
In a place not quite in the world of the living, Hisahide can be found in his special teahouse.
Peering into his tea kettle allows one to view the happenings of another war-torn world much like our own. The conflict and strife found within seem to only add flavor to Hisahide's tea...
Hisahide shows no intent of ever addressing his regrets or departing for the next plane of existence. Indeed, in his own way he may well remain in the interim forever.

In battle, he uses Dual swords with skills that compare to what Ashikaga Yoshiteru uses, on top of a myriad of unique Jutsu that he uses frequently:
- Similar to what standard ninja enemies use, Hisahide has an explosive grapple maneuver that can be burst countered that he uses, though he doesn't take damage from it if successful, instead performing the laugh gesture, which can be used as an opportunity to damage him if you manage to survive the attack.
- He can toss out an alternating volley of 4 Blister-beetle and Medusa powder in quick succession, so resistance talismans, Seven-herb Pills, and/or Anti-toxin Pills can make his fight less frustrating.
- He has a feint move similar to Quick-change scrolls where he will appear to fall over dramatically, only to appear from a cloud of smoke above. He will immediately start attacking upon landing, so dodging out of the way is an effective way to avoid taking damage from this feint.
