Soul Match is one of the Blacksmith options in Nioh 2. Soul Match allows players to increase the level of a piece of Armor or Weapon to increase their stats by infusing it with another piece of Equipment. Soul Match can also transfer Special Effects with the  soul_match_icon_nioh_2_wiki_guide_50px Inheritable or transfer Transferable icon.

All items such as weapons, armor and accessories have an Item Level Cap.

Transferable/ Inheritable Special Effects

  • Inheritable Special Effects are represented by the soul_match_icon_nioh_2_wiki_guide_50px icon. These Special Effects can be moved from one piece of equipment to another using the Soul Match function on the Blacksmith once the item that has the effect has maxed out Familiarity. They can be moved in this way an infinite amount of times, but cannot be changed by Tempering.
  • Transferable Special Effects are represented by the transfer icon. These Special Effects can be moved from one piece of equipment to another using the Soul Match Function on the Blacksmith once the item that has the effect has maxed out Familiarity. They can only be moved once this way, afterwards becoming a free effect, giving you another special effect slot to temper with.

Yokai Weapons

Yokai Weapons can also be infused with Soul Cores. This will work for both Level and transferable Special Effects.

Material

Here you can select the piece of equipment that you will use to infuse your base. The level of the Finished Form will be the same as the Material Level. If the Material has lower level than the base, only transferable Special Effects will be changed and the level will remain the same.

Soul Matching Cost

You can also see the Soul Matching cost at the bottom right of the screen. The cost will progressively get more expensive depending on the Rarity and Level.

Okay so i tried infusing things into other things in nioh 2 ( cores/ armor weapons ) and it just does nothing. The effect transpires but it does ansolutely no level up what so ever and i have stuff that was lvl 20 versus 10/13. I don't understand that. Same with the cores. I had a core lvl 9 and tried to infuse it to 20. No bueno.

      What's going on?

If your in dream of the Nioh difficulty, you'll start picking up + variants of sets, you can convert your non + set bonus by using a + version of that set bonuses as a soul match material.

Note that if the TRANSFERABLE special skill you wish to transfer is already on the weapon you want to transfer it to as a FREE special skill, it will not transfer. Temper away the FREE special skill to something that doesn't match and you can proceed to add the TRANSFERABLE special skill.

I have a question: during a soul match between my Tokagemaru at level 70 and a soul-core at leve 75, the result is 72, I can't understand why :(
