Takenaka Hanbei is an NPC in Nioh 2. NPCs are characters that can be interacted with or are shown in the game. NPCs are characters that add contrast to the game's lore where they provide information, some are categorized as quest givers, while others are categorized as Merchants whom you can trade with or request for certain services.
Takenaka Hanbei Information
He is known as an uncommonly brilliant tactician. In one famous account, he is known to have captured the Saito clan's lnabayama Castle with barely any men at all, all in the name of proving to his master that it could be done.
After Saito Dosan's death, Hanbei left the service of the Saito clan and began to lead a secluded life. It is during this self-imposed exile that Tokichiro and the protagonist invite him to join their cause. While Hanbei initially declines their request due to his frail physical condition, he has already heard rumors of the unusual pair and shows interest in them. He is convinced that Tokichiro is who he says he is when Tokichiro uses his ability to cleanse Hakutaku, Hanbei's Guardian Spirit and mentor, of corruption. As Hanbei's illness is starting to show signs of receding, he agrees to help the Oda clan with its invasion of lnabayama Castle.
Hanbei comes to serve as an officer in the Hideyoshi army. However, his illness suddenly takes a turn of for the worse while the army is at war with the Oda forces in Ishiyama Honganji, and ultimately claims his life.
Feeling as if he had died before his time, Hanbei remained in the Interim, awaiting the protagonist's arrival. His wish to meet the protagonist again is granted when the protagonist is killed by Tokichiro. Hanbei explains that from the first day they met, he had foreseen that he would one day serve the protagonist, and the he had waited this long to aid him in defeating the man with the staff.
