The Golden Nation

Mission Start Text

Thanks to the visionary leadership of Lord Nobunga, our nation has seen an increase in traders visiting from foreign soil, adding to the bustle of our towns.

However, it appears one of the envoys sent by Lord Nobunga to oversee the inspection of goods has not returned. I sense that something out of the ordinary has taken place.

Would you mind looking into the matter for me?

Mission End Text

The main thing is that Lord Ujisato and his party are safe.

It would seem that greed will drive all men, be they from here or from foreign lands, to do evil. If people continue to visit our land with such intentions then I fear that further war will not be far behind. But what can be done to prevent that happening...?

Anyway, you have my thanks, and that of Lord Usijato as well.

The Golden Nation Walkthrough

Track down the Messenger

starting-point-the-golden-nation-nioh-2-wiki-guide-600px

Players arrive outside a Buddhist temple where you'll see the first shrine. Be careful facing the soldiers here since they are actually a Rokurokubi yokai, and fighting them in a group or if you are outnumbered is not a good idea. From the shrine, go up the stairs and head to the left side of the corridor, the door on the right is locked which you'll need to open from the other side. At the end of the corridor, there's a small room that you can open where you'll find a corpse inside that you can loot. After searching to room, continue forward and head inside the temple where you'll encounter the first Rokurokubi sitting by the sliding door that leads to the courtyard of the temple. Don't go outside first, but instead, go left towards the corridor and kill the Warrior Skeleton that's behind the Shoji wall of the room on the left side. After killing it, go up the stairs to the study room where you'll see a ninja looting a corpse.

Since you've cleared the area for loot and enemies, go back down and head outside the courtyard where you'll see two Rokurokubi that are patrolling the area. Also, in the middle part of the courtyard, you'll find the first Kodama hiding in the grass and flowers behind some rocks. You can go ahead and kill the two Rokurokubi, then go straight where you'll see a fog, the yokai within it is a Mitsume Yazura which conjures the dark realm once it appears. Kill it, then just up ahead, you'll also see a Flying Bolt yokai that's roaming the corridor back and forth. You can actually shoot her from the courtyard with your rifle or bow.

After clearing the courtyard, there's a ladder on the far right side that you can climb to reach the rooftop area. Don't go towards the marked destination yet where you'll see a large hole on the wall, but instead go left and straight ahead where you'll see another large hole on the temple walls that leads into a library Just when you're about to approach the room, two ninjas will appear and attack you.

Inside the library, you'll find a Yoki on the right corner that seems to be looking at the second Kodama. You'll want to shoot the Yoki from afar instead of attacking it head-on so that you can draw it away from the nearby Warrior Skeleton. Kill the Yoki, followed by the nearby Warrior Skeleton, then interact with the Kodama to guide it back to the shrine. Ahead of the room, there's a Tesso as well. Kill it, open the large chest near its position, then open the locked door where you'll find the small study room you just cleared earlier - after that's done, go back to the library, climb back to the rooftop, and jump down towards the Yoki that's looting a corpse near a tree that's on the left side corner.

From where the Yoki was, there's a small set of stairs on the right that leads to the corridor where the Flying Bolt was. Before you go straight, there's a door on the right side that you can open that leads to some rooms of the temple where you'll find the yokai that's weeping. Destroy the Shoji wall ahead and then go right, you'll encounter a new yokai which is the Ubume inside the room. The Ubume was once a grieving mother who now clings onto spirit stones thinking of it to be their child. At first, it seems like it won't attack since it's protecting the spirit stone, but later on, it will spread its wings like a Harpy and attack you. It can also release a loud cry that can stun you for a short while if you're hit - after clearing the room, go back to the corridor that you just came from, go straight and head to the opposite side of the temple where you'll find the door that you can now unlock that leads back to the starting point.

Now, go back to the courtyard, climb the ladder to the rooftop and head to the east side of the temple from the hole on the wall that leads to the upper section of the chapel. Just when you're about to step inside, a Ninja will drop down from the ceiling and attack you.

Before you jump down, you'll want to walk on the beam on the right side and head all the way to the end where you'll find the last Kodama for this mission. There's also a corpse nearby that you'll want to loot - when that's done, you can jump down to the chapel below you where you'll encounter the boss that's within the mist.

Boss: Onryoki

When you're ready, approach the mist and the boss will appear. You can learn more about this boss by clicking here or check the video guide that's linked below. Onryoki appeared as one of the bosses in the first Nioh game - you'll obtain the Rusty Key after killing this boss, also, don't forget to look under the organ where you'll find a corpse that you can loot.

Once you've obtained the key, open the sliding door inside the chapel which will lead you back to the corridors of the temple. Simply follow the marker and open the door that's in the middle with the key, you'll find the messenger, Gamo Ujisato or "Leon" inside the room, speak to him three times and he'll give you a Lumicite Shard and the mission will be completed.
