The Greedy Hunter | Nioh 2 Wiki


The Greedy Hunter is a Sub Mission in Nioh 2. This mission is recommended for level 20, has a level 3 difficulty, and features yokai enemies. The Greedy Hunter tasks players with eliminating the Yokai within the forest. This mission is unlocked after completing the Main Mission: The Viper's Sanctum. Guess what! We've got another job through Master Dosan. I guess he doesn't want us forgetting who's in charge anytime soon.

It's another request to take care of some Yokai. Apparently, they've already sent a bunch of people but not a single one of them has returned. Still, that doesn't scare you though, right? I didn't think so. Let's get to it then!

Damn it. It seems we were played.

Although, I can kind of understand how someone might be compelled to rely on shady individuals like that what with all of the yokai on the loose.

Hmm... Wearing a mask, hunting yokai... doesn't that make you think of Mumyo...?

The Greedy Hunter Walkthrough

For this mission, you'll return to the forest where you completed the sub-mission: The Forest Veiled in Darkness. When you arrive at the starting point, you'll find yourself at the sole Kodama shrine of this mission. The area for you to explore is quite small compared to how it was before, the goal is to follow the markers on the mini-map and kill the Yokai that you were asked to.

In the forest, you'll pretty much face countless Yokai that are roaming around, such as a Yoki, Enki, Gaki, Aberrant Soldier, and Nure-Onna. And as you head further towards the objective, there will be some bandits around as well. There are no Kodama, Sudama, Scampuss, Hot Springs, or Locks in the area, and the loot that you obtain from killing enemies and from searching bodies are random, simply follow the markers until you reach the objective.

Objective: Kill the Masked Slayer

Eventually, when you reach the objective. You'll be locked in the small arena and face a couple of waves of Yokai until the Masked slayer appears. The first yokai that will appear is a small Gaki, followed by an Aberrant Soldier, an Enki, a large Gaki that is accompanied by a Nure-Onna.

After killing the large Gaki and Nure-Onna, a Yoki and a small Gaki will appear as well as the Dark Realm. After killing both Yokai, the realm will disappear and the masked yokai slayer wielding a heavy axe will appear. Turns out, the masked slayer who is gathering a number of Yokai is what you need to kill, not a yokai - successfully killing the human slayer completes the sub-mission.

Trivia & Notes:

If Yokai Shift is used during the fight with the Sohaya at the end of the mission, they have a unique line of dialog commenting on the player's transformation

      There needs to be another shrine placed by the gauntlet entrance. This so you can restock elixirs and such prior to engagement. Going into the fight after fighting multiple Yokai pretty much assured I was going into this with a depleted elixir supply. If you are not successful you then have to run past numerous enemies from the starting shrine to get back.
