Mission Start Text

"Having heard about your abilities, a retainer of Yoshitsune's has requested that you join him in a yokai hunt. The yokai in question seems to be in a rather remote location, but this retainer said he would lead the way. I don't know any more than that, so I suggest you find out the rest from the horse's mouth, so to speak."

Mission End Text

If you kill Kagetoki:

"So that so-called yokai hunt was really all to silence a withness. Hmph! That Kagetoki was a piece of work alright. If only cutting him down ended our problems, but the words of that last yokai have me worried. I can only hope that Lord Yoshitsune is not in any immediate danger..."

If you kill the kappa:

"You did well to defeat those yokai, but I can't help feeling that Kagetoki was concealing something. After he thanked you, he couldn't get away fast enough. I have heard tales of his machinations, and how he has contrived to visit disgrace on the blameless. I can only hope there wasn't more going on back there than met the eye..."

The Loyal Retainer Walkthrough

Yoshitsune's Retainer

Upon starting, you'll be greeted by Yoshitsune's retainer, Kajiwara Kagetoki who will join your party in hunting a particular yokai deep within a remote area you are in. After listening to Kajiwara, head straight and you'll find the first shrine for this mission that's next to a wooden bridge. Pray at the shrine if needed, then proceed forward towards the bridge where you'll see a Kappa in the middle next to a corpse that you can loot. Kill the Kappa, loot the body, and then cross the bridge where you'll find a Wheelmonk rolling up and down the inclined path ahead and an Aberrant Soldier on the right side of the same path - after you've killed both yokai, head up the path and in the middle, you'll encounter x3 Gaki feeding on a corpse that you can loot.

Graveyard - First Dark Realm

Once you've cleared the path, you'll find a graveyard that's engulfed with the dark realm. Walk towards the plank on the left and you'll see a Kappa below you and a roaming Warrior Skeleton. Try not to drop down and charge in because an Oni-bi will spawn of you just go in, shoot the Kappa or the Warrior Skeleton first on the head with your bow and arrow to inflict a critical strike. Don't forget to loot another body after clearing the first three yokai encountered - also, as you go straight, before passing through the Torii gate, you'll also encounter a Dweller

As you go straight, before passing through the Torii gate, another Skeleton Warrior that spawns on the right side of the gate and a Yoki next to a campfire next to the house. Kill both yokai, and then head inside the house where you'll find a large Kappa that holds the source of the dark realm. Killing it will dispel the dark realm and you can open the two large chests nearby - one is outside the house, and the other is on the left side from the second Kodama shrine.

Second Shrine

Make sure to use the shrine before you proceed forward. From the Kodama shrine, head towards the path on the left and you'll find the second chest you can loot and another Warrior Skeleton that will spawn next to it. Kill the yokai and open the chest before jumping down towards another house. By the house, on the right side, there's a Magatsu Warrior roaming, on the left is a Rokurokubi, and inside the house is a large Gaki along with a small one. Clear the area and then be ready to fight and survive a gauntlet of yokai enemies - if you're ready, jump down from the house where you'll see an open field and a large tree in the center.

You'll encounter yokai such as Kappa, Wheelmonk, Aberrant Soldier, Gaki, Mitsume Yazura, and finally a Kiryoki that conjures a dark realm. Killing the Kiryoki dispels the dark realm and unlocks the last section of the area.

Upon entering the last section, you'll find a large Kappa that runs away from you when it sees you and Kajiwara Kagetoki mentions that this is the last yokai that needs to be killed. DO NOT KILL THE KAPPA, approach it, and then lock-on-to Kajiwara himself. Apply buffs if needed, but he's just a normal human enemy that can easily be staggered and can easily break his guard. You'll complete the mission after you defeat him.

Speak to the Kappa and you'll learn that he was a witness to Kajiwara and his group who's plotting to kill Yoshitsune. Also, you'll learn that this mission was not to hunt for yokai but to help Kajiwara dispatch the withness - this completes the sub-mission.
