Mission Start Text

Ah, it's you. When it comes to throwing an axe around, there's no-one out there that even comes close to matching me, the great Sakata Kintoki. But I'm sure you knew that already.

Come, let's see which of us is the strongest. If you prove yourself worthy of it I'll gladly teach you everything there is to know about the axe.

Walkthrough

Your Axe proficiency must be at least 120,000 or more to start this tutorial mission, you can gain proficiency points by unlocking any weapon skills and by fighting enemies with the Axe. Before you start the mission, make sure you have made any preparations needed since this tutorial mission leads straight to a mini-boss battle against Sakata Kintoki.

The key on defense is to wait for him to do any of Mad Spinner, Roar, Titanic Strength raw or Bear's Bane, since he always does Titanic Strength after that. These attacks have massive recovery for him and are the safest points of attack. The majority of the rest of his attacks recovers quickly, and on top of being an Axe user he has very high toughness, so he has armor on basically every single attack he does, making being the initiator very risky and not worth doing. On top of this, he takes very little Ki damage on hit, and can recover Ki even while getting hit somehow. Once he reaches halve health, he starts to do impossible and armored follow ups that you can not, like Heaven and Earth from High Stance Strong attack, or Lumber Chop immediately after Rampage.

Just stay patient and wait for him to make a mistake that you can punish. When you do, you should do either two High stance quick attacks followed by Stone Mallet or Stone Mallet raw. In the first case, he will block the Stone Mallet, which does massive Break, and it's the best way to deal Ki damage to him by far. In the second case, it will tumble him, and if  you Ki pulse and do a High stance strong attack it will reach him, grounding him for both hits and giving you a Final Blow. After that, you get to hit him once from behind, and then get him to block Stone Mallet.

Defeating Sakata Kintoki will end the mission.
