Tokichiro Information

Tokichiro is a traveling peddler of Spirit Stones. Skilled at earning the trust of others and prone to getting a little too carried away, he has survived these turbulent times by capitalizing on his sharp instincts and street smarts. He also possesses the rare ability to soothe raging yokai, transforming them from violent aratama into peaceful nigitama. He is incredibly ambitious and dreams of rising to power far beyond his station.

Tokichiro arrives in jusanzakura to discover that the village has been infested with yokai. He summons the protagonist for help, but the protagonist is unable to control their own power during the ensuing battle. Using the Spirit Stones, Tokichiro manages to soothe the protagonist and save them. He then asks the protagonist to join him on his travels, hoping to fulfill his dreams of great power.

Later, the skilled yokai hunter Mumyo joins traveling party, and the three head to Owari under the instruction of Saito Dosan to enter Oda Nobunaga's service.

Oda Nobunaga entrusts the pair known as "Hideyoshi" with a large store of Spirit Stones, and Tokichiro gradually becomes less able to hold his ambitions in check. A mysterious red-eyed man establishes contact with Tokichiro, sensing the oppurtunity to exploit Tokichiro's pride.

After Nobunaga's death during the Honnoji incident, Tokichiro defeats the rebel Akechi Mitsuhide's forces, bolstering his own power. However, the protagonist starts to harbor doubts about Tokichiro despite their close relationship, and vanishes without a trace.

During the Battle of*****zugatake, Tokichiro defeats the Oda clan's chief retainer, Shibata Katsuie. He then clashes violently with the influential Tokugawa Ieyasu, one of the late Nobunaga's allies, during the Battle of Komaki and Nagakute. He killed by the protagonist, but not for long. The man with the staff draws close to his lifeless body and causes Tokichiro to rise again. Tokichiro's newly found power is enough to allow him to end the protagonist's life.

With all of Japan finally under his control, Tokichiro discovers that it is not enough, and continous to seek out Spirit Stones. The protagonist arrives in Jurakudai Palace, which Tokichiro has built himself. Though Tokichiro succeeds in avoiding a confronotation with the protagonist the first time, the protagonist is relentless and manages to confront Tokichiro at a party being held in Daigoji. The two come to blows in the very spot they first met. Finally, defeated by the protagonist, Tokichiro returns to his senses when the protagonist slices off his horns. However, it is too late to save him, and Tokichiro bids his old friend goodbye before breathing his last.

Tokichiro is resurrected once more by Maria when she comes to Japan, seeking to stir up dissent in order to obtain Spirit Stones. When he comes to his senses, he sees none other than the protagonist before him. In an attempt to take a blow from the man with the staff that was meant for Tokichiro, the protagonist struggles to resist as the darkness threatens to consume them. Tokichiro saves the protagonist, allowing them to defeat Otakemaru once and for all. This ends a troubled time in Japan's history, and peace visits the land at last. Tokichiro recites a final poem before leaving this plane of existence forever.
