Urabe no Suetake Information
Urabe no Suetake, also known as Taira no Suetake, is a military commander from the mid-Heian period. His real name is Sakanoue no Suetake.
A skilled archer and horseman, he is one of Minamoto no Yorimitsu's Four Guardians and said to be a descendant of the great Sakanoue no Tamuramaro. In folktales, he is known for stealing the famous Kumokiri sword from Takiyasha Hime, and bravely accepting a child from an Ubume in the dead of the night.
The protagonist meets Suetake as they are en route to the palace's inner court, pursuing a suspicious figure. Suetake comes to the protagonist's aid with his skill at archery, and helps them in their fight against yokai foes. While the two finally meet the suspicious figure they were trailling, they are unable to discern its true identity.
Having observed the protagonist's skill while they were together in the inner court, Suetake feels deeply competitive and regrets not having been able to duel the protagonist himself. When Kintoki brings the protagonist before him in the afterlife, Suetake finally gets to do battle with his much younger rival, and can rest in peace despite his defeat.
