"An ominous figure has been seen sighted roaming round a village littered with the bodies of their dead. It is likely just a thief rummaging for spoils, but could I ask you to ascertain the truth of the matter for me?"

"So, it was not a thief, but rather a priest who had come to perform rites for the villagers? Truly he is doing the world a service, bringing comfort and guidance to people. I trust the villagers can now finally rest in peace, blessed as they now are by the honorable and most selfless Kukai. I hope to one day repay him for his kindness. "

• Right after opening the gates after killing the Itsumade and clearing a Dark Realm, go inside the first house to the right to find the Scampuss.

Words of Respite Walkthrough

Kukai and First Brush

As you start the mission, turn around and run toward the burning piles to the right of the doors for an item. Pray at the Shrine, follow the path to find Kukai, and talk to him twice to know that he wants you to find his brushes. If you find only one, you can talk to him and end the mission early if you want. Now, go forward and kill the 2 Bandits and Human Samurai around a body with an item. At the first house to the right, there’s an item, and at the second there’s a Bandit, and in the house opposite to this one, there’s another item. As you move forward, a Bandit Archer will see you from above, kill him and then kill the other 2 Bandits under him. There’s an item to the left, and in this house there’s a Bandit laying down, kill him and go to the house by the left of this one. There’s a hole behind this house, go through it and go all the way up to find an Aberrant Soldier, a Rokurokubi and a Namahage, kill all of them, open the chest to the right and grab the Grand Master’s Brush I where the enemies were.

 Second Brush

Go back but this time, follow the path to the roof of the houses, grab the item where the Bandit Archer was, turn left and keep on these roofs until you reach the end. Fall to the right and kill the Human Samurai guarding an item there. Now go to the main road there and at the third house to the right is an item, and at the last house to the right is a chest. Keep going to find another Bandit, kill him and open the doors at the end. Head left, toward the house, and kill the 2 Aberrant Soldiers and Kiryoki there. Stay to the left to find an item inside the house there, and go up the tree roots to get to the second floor of the big house. There’s an item there guarded by 3 Small Spiders that will fall from the ceiling, grab it and go to the hole on the floor there. You can see 2 Gakis and a Nuppeppo, jump down and kill them and grab the Grand Master’s Brush II. In this house, you will also find a Dweller close to an item next to the doors, and another Dweller guarding a chest.

Dark Realm and Third Brush

Now, go to the path leading down, grab the item along the way and kill the Oboroguruma. When you reach down, a Namahage, a Dweller bomber and 2 Aberrant Soldiers will be in front of a pile of burning corpses. Kill them all and grab the item on the fallen tree, go up and grab the other item on the roof of the house. Get down and get in the next house to the right to kill a Gaki and find a Scampuss. Kill the Aberrant Soldier and Dweller at the opposite side snd go down the slope to get in the Dark Realm. The Itsumade is responsible for this Dark Realm, and in this big area 2 Harinobo are present to distract you. Kill them and head inside the first house to the right of the slope for the Grand Master’s Brush III.

Last Brush

At the last house to the left is a chest guarded by a Kiryoki, open it and then open the gates there. The first house on the right has a Scampuss inside, and between the houses is a Kiryoki guarding an item. In the middle of this area is a Hellish Hag accompanied by 2 Gakis guarding an item. Kill them, grab the item and follow the path. To the right is a Gaki, kill it and keep following the path to find the Grand Master’s Brush IV guarded by a Magatsu Warrior. Now go back to Kukai and give him the brushes to end this mission.
