Tenmoku Information
This type of tea bowl is distinguished by its indented mouth, known in Japanese as a 'snapping turtle mouth". Tenmoku tea bowls have excellent heat retention capabilities, making them favoritotfor use in tea ceremonies. Its e is said to have come from the fact that en priest brought this type of tea bowl along with the custom of tea drinking back with him from Tianmu Mountain ("Tenmoku" in Japanese) which was located in Zhejiang, the heart of Zen Buddhism.
