Lady Osakabe is a Boss and Enemy in Nioh 2. Lady Osakabe is a Castle Yokai that attacks with her limbs.

Enemy Description

Lady Osakabe is a yokai that has possessed an entire castle, lending the building her life force. Records of this yokai exist in a collection of ghost stories published in the Edo Period. In this anthology, the yokai possessed Himeji Castle, causing all sorts of strange incidents before finally making the castle owner ill. When a monk was summoned to exorcize the yokai, it materialised in front of him in the form of a mysterious woman, ordering him to leave. Angered by the monk's refusal, the yokai transformed into a giant monstrosity and killed him.

There are four theories regarding Lady Osakabe's true identity: that it was a mountain god, a snake god, an extremely aged fox, or the spirit of a noble who died filled with great regret. The last of these can be explained as follows: when Himeji Castle was being constructed, a shrine dedicated to Osabe Shinno had to be moved elsewhere. Shinno was a member of the Nara-period royal family who died suddenly at 14 when he was forced into the life of a commoner for political reasons. His death was followed by a series of natural disasters, causing others to believe that he had cursed those who wronged him. Thus, the yokai that materialized in Himeji Castle was believed to be the direct result of the moving of Shinno's shrine, an act signaling disrespect.

Lady Osakabe attacks her enemies using hair-like tentacles that contain amrita at their core. The tips of these tentacles have organs reminiscent of mouths and eyes that are capable of unleashing all manner of elemental attacks. While the eyes on these tentacles can emit dangerous flashes capable of cursing an enemy, they are also Lady Osakabe's weak point and present an oppurtunity to strike.

How to Beat Lady Osakabe

Lady Osakabe Boss Guide:

To defeat Lady Osakabe you need to defeat her limbs to stagger her, and then attack her main head to deal damage. After 10-15% of the damage the limbs will regenerate and you will need to beat them again.

As soon as the fight starts, run to one of her limbs and start attacking it. When a limb runs out of Ki it will drop to the roof where you can easily attack it. All the limbs will attack you while you are doing this, so try to keep moving to avoid the elemental balls. The limbs will occasionally perform a burst attack. This attack can be easily countered providing a great opportunity to defeat the limb. Once a limb is defeated, run the next one and repeat.

During the fight her main head will hover over the battlefield casting random attacks. It's hard to keep track of her, so staying on the limbs is the most advisable strategy.

Once you defeat four of her limbs she will become staggered and her main head will fall to the roof. Run to the main head and deal as much damage as you can. After a short while she will recover and you will need to repeat the whole process.

When she runs out of health, run to her main eye (Located at the Castle), and perform a finishing blow to finish the fight.

The majority of her attacks are elemental and/or projectiles, so using Daion-Jin's Sake and stacking Elemental Damage, Projectile Damage and Blocked Elemental Damage reduction significantly lowers the risk the majority of her attacks pose.

Attacks & Counters

Attack Counter
Phase 1

Burst Attack:

NG: Her limbs can perform a burst attack ramming into the player

WOTD: Her limbs do a spinning attack similar to Tentacle Storm

NG: You can easily counter this attack.

WOTD: Becomes much harder to time with a Brute burst counter, otherwise same.

Elemental Balls: Her limbs will periodically cast elemental balls aimed towards the player.  Try to keep moving to avoid the balls. You can also use your guard to prevent part of the damage.

Notes & Trivia

  • Her weak points are the red eyes. The eyes become vulnerable when the tentacles run out of Ki. Focus on them when the tentacles drop after their Ki meters are depleted. The Yokai Core, Yatsu-no-Kami works extremely well to deal damage, as long as the player can line up the shot efficiently.
  • Memories - “I wonder if my master dreams of me now…I envy all those who are with him now…All I wanted was to be close to him…”

Use 2 blessed arrows on the targetable eyes then shoot it with whatever high break ranged weapon you got(bows work well) once broken rush towards it and kill it, do it on all 4 of limbs. As soon as the last limb dies quickly buff yourself for dmg and rush to the middle and damage the 5th limb, rinse and repeat for 2nd phase.

So they lazily remade the end boss from the first game, except now there's no cover and every head attacks at once, with another head which you can't focus on attacking you as well. Brilliant design

Terrible boss, 60% of melee attacks won't connect & you get spammed by constant attacks so by the time you do hit, you're out of ki & then the windows of attack are way too short, you'll burn though your heals in no time

Phase 1: shoot down small tentacles with cannon and kill them. Then use Yatsu-no-kami straight into the main tentacle’s eye. Should do about 50% damage!

Repeat in phase 2 except once you run out of cannon ammo, take small tentacles down with burst counters, normal hits and yokai shift. Then yatsu-no-kami the fallen eye again and it should die.

Annoying boss and worst in this game, but this way it’s no big deal. Rejuvenation talismans can help.

The guide section says the limbs will drop when they run out of Ki, which is wrong. They don't use Ki but Anima.
By the way: **** boss fight. No one can argue against that.

Relatively easy to cheese with ranged weapon spam, target her main eye and the large tentacles that hang overhead and to the back. Explosive arrows deal high ki/anima damage as well as proccing an ignite, reliable way of breaking her so you can gouge her eye out.

Worst boss in the entire game!!! Maybe if you weren't hit by other tentacles. Or if you didn't need to re-fight a bunch of reused bosses to reach her it would be OK. As it is this is annoying and extremely frustrating. Weapon choice seems key too. Short range melee is stupid hard :-/

Spammed God of Wind on small tentacles to deplete their Ki and Water Sword to finish them off after, and Water Sword again when big tentacle is out of Ki, took only 3 tries.

How are you supposed to deal with her non stop spam? I can't finish a single combo without taking damage. Often from multiple sources at once.

in her first phase its pretty trivial, just stand under one tencacle and dodge attack from others via sound (she gigles when she uses her main attacks),BC when needed and block the spin,in second phase if you have good cannon you can literally 1-2 tap her eyes without even a ranged-main build,do note you need to read her patterns well to not get statuses as cannon is quite slow

She dropped the Firefly Blade and Demon's Maw smithing texts for me. Might have dropped the Shrine Maiden's Garb text as well, but I'm less certain on that one.

anyone who whines about this boss must have not cleared nioh 1 because osakabe is a weaker copy pasta of the final nioh boss...sometimes i think people just refuse to use the tools provided by the game to fight bosses...cannons deplete eye-arms ki in two hits, use sacred water or barrier for ki regen so you can dodge better, use long weapons with better reach and damage, use phantom guardians for ezier burst counter....

extra tip, always clear eye-arms from the same side. Not only will you only worry about projectiles from one side, you can also use the roof ridge to block incoming balls.

This game is packed full of bosses, I suppose there's gonna be 1 or 2 bad ones. It's also disappointing how much content was just cut&pasted from Nioh 1 too, bosses and missions.

As mentioned earlier, Yatsu-no-Kami ability absolutely SHREDS this boss. One activation on her main eye and literally half her health bar is gone. Ends this otherwise shitty and drawn out fight in no time.

same as for daidara bocchi. extremely bad boss design. u HAVE to use melee weapon to kill it. but this time its a sword only.

F*CKING. HELL. Yatsu-no-Kami Yokai Ability... try it when the big tentacle is down. Stand in front of the eye when you’ve depleted the little tentacles and just go ham. I swear this saved my ass on Dream of the Wise.

And I thought Gyuki was bad...
whoever designed this should seriously consider finding a different line of work.

Demon difficulty is annoying... Dragon dance split staff barely hits 1 or 2 out of a combo, while spear pokes and odachi hits every time...

Spin to win is instant stunlock, head poke is unlockable (but not red or misty (?) attack) ...

Idk, in my opinion demon is artificial difficulty, everything jump around more, has tripple HP but doesn't hit much harder...

                                          Thanks but no thanks!

Well, when I cleared her I remember that I ran out of stamina running to her eye so she was able to recover out of the stagger because I finished her last 10% or so hp, so I decided to try my luck and fire my cannon at the big red eye at the center of the castle, apparently it worked because it finished off her remaining health which allowed me to go in for the finishing blow.

                                            • Anonymous

Why do you have to fight against 4 tentacles to just take 10% of hp to the core? Rinse, repeat... boring. Impossible solo for average player.

                                              • Anonymous

I remember fighting Yamata-no-Orochi, and in my opinion that fight is just done so much better even if I’m not a big fan of that fight either. I just don’t like it when you actively have to sprint around trying to avoid attacks and also wait for that one part to come in range so you can attack it when you’re not even sure if its in range or not. And the fact that all of this consumes so much stamina that one hit is enough to knock you out of breath is just super unfun for me. I like all of the bosses from a lore-point if not the actual fight itself. But these type of boss-battles I’d just rather avoid as much as possible. (Thats not even mentioning all those elemental attacks, absolutely infuriating)

                                                • Anonymous

Hot, badly designed RNG garbage. Not hard. Absolutely not. But when dodging a basic attack from full health, you WILL be stunned by an elemental bubble (Bonus points if it electrifies you) and immediately killed by main-head lasers. Happened to me many times during the stream today. Total and utter***** *****ing boss. Hate it.

Been farming her alot. Finally got confirmed drop of Smithing Text: Red Demon Armor. Now i am going for Seventh Sword Tonfa for the gun skill. I will post other confirmed drops as i get them(the ones that arent listed. Confirmed: Smithing Text: Echoing Thunder(Imbued Lightning Hatchets)

Easy Boss , by this point of the game ( Since you had to kill another Enera , Yatsu-no-kami & also Kasha ) for this Monstrosity to deal with is Hilarious but somewhat Nasty at the same time LOL... anyways , dont go alone ( Try atleast having 1 back up Benevolant Grave summon as NPC , this would make the 4 limbs be divided in focus meaning as you Hit the limb infront of you , the 2 or 3 others will probably attack your NPC friend ) I honestly suggest immediately using all your Hand Cannon Ammo blasting through all the Limbs.... as you approach the Arena just try Bullseye by shooting the Eyes of the Limbs you are focusing on ( 6 Hand Cannon ammo with 4 other Explosive Upgraded Ammo should be enough to down 3 Limbs easily ) this tactic should atleast be 40% of her main Life Bar just by using Hand Cannon & another NPC benevolant friend help... also if you felt stuck without Hand Cannon Ammo , remember her all Yokais are Weak to Purity ( and if your using a Bow as secondary Ranged Weapon , the Sacred Arrows are imbued with Purity that deal good damage... 9 Sacred Arrow shots should also Kill 1 Limb aswell ) try saving all your Stuff within the 2nd Phase of the fight , as in the Dark Realm would be summoned ( Since this Boss Battle is about endurance , if you use Onmyo Magic try equipping Rejuvination Talismans and other like Fire/Water/Lightning Stop talismans which greatly reduce the Elemental Damage and the Debuff Ailments aswell ) Goodluck

If your having trouble beating here just invest a little time to get your Onmyo magic up for the buffs. If you get all three element resistances buffs the boss is a cake walk. Half the issue with this boss is the god awful ailments she puts on you in one hit. An also aim for the eyes with Hand Cannons.

I waited like 30 min and couldn’t summon anyone through the shrine and I’m burning through cups doing the blue revenants because they just die instantly

Reminds me of the Big Sister boss from The Surge... getting shot at from all sides while trying to hit other parts of the boss makes for an annoying fight.
