Okuni is a shrine maiden and a gifted dancer. She has a sunny disposition and a kindhearted nature- she cannot stand idly by when she sees someone in trouble. She travels throughout the war-ravaged land, easing people's pain with her performances.
Her elegant dance routines have garnered praise from all quarters, and indeed it seems she counts yokai among her fans, as they seem to flock to her in uncommon numbers. She ends up imprisoned by yokai in a bathhouse before being rescued by the protagonist.
While she is confined to the bathhouse, Okuni realizes that she has lost a hairpin that holds great meaning for her. She asks the protagonist to assist her in searching for it, and they manage to get it back. It turns out that the hairpin is one of a set, the other one belonging to her missing younger sister.
Hearing rumors that there is a girl who dances just like her in the palace of Jurakudai, Okuni becomes convinced that this is her sister. She teams up with the protagonist and goes in search of her, but eventually learns that she has died. This prompts Okuni to reaffirm her commitment to the art of dance.
Appalled by the cruelty of the conflict Tokichiro is unleashing upon the land, Okuni readily agrees to aid in a plan to infiltrate the temple of Daigoji. Tokichiro is enjoying her dance performance and has momentarily let his guard down when Okuni reveals that the protagonist and Mumyo are also in attendance.
