Taira no Korehira Information

Taira no Korehira is a military commander from the mid-Heian period. He is a mighty warrior who is said to rival Minamoto no Yorimitsu, and also the Governor of Ise. In later years, his clan would come to enjoy even greater power in that region, eventually producing the famed Taira no Kiyomori and becoming known as the Ise-Heishi.

Many branches of the Taira clan employ a butterfly motif in their crest, and Korehira's clan is no exception. While the butterfly is an elegant, refined creature, it is also a symbol of death and rebirth, and is favored as a crest motif as it represents the warrior's bravery in the face of death.

Korehira journeys alone to Ise when he senses something dark is afoot. He comes to join forces with the protagonist, who is searching for Ashiya Doman's spirit, and tells the protagonist of the great calamity that once befell the land. After Doman is defeated, Korehira swears to continue to protect Ise, and shares his Guardian Spirit with the like-minded protagonist.
