Watanabe no Tsuna Information

Watanabe no Tsuna is a military commander from the mid-Heian period. He is perhanps the most celebrated member of the Four Guardians of Minamoto no Yorimitsu, and is said to have wielded a great sword lent to him by Yorimitsu herself to slay a great number of demons. Of the many tales of his exploits, one of the most famous is his slaying of a demon on the Ichijio-Modori Bridge. In this tale, Tsuna meets a woman on the bridge, but realizes that she is really a demon in disguise. He slices off her arm, leading his sword-- originally borrowed from Yorimitsu-- to be known as the Demon Cutter.

In Japan, the festival Setsubun is celebrated by throwing beanss out one's door, a practice that symbolizes chasing the demons out of one's home. Tsuna's reputation for slaying demons was so great that is said that those who share his last name, Watanabe, do not need to participate in this custom at all.

When Yorimitsu asks the protagonist to search for Tsuna, the protagonist harbors suspicions about Yorimitsu’s behavior and proceeds on the search alone. Upon finding Tsuna, Tsuna immediately realizes that the protagonist is being followed by a fake Yorimitsu. Tsuna and the protagonist join forces against the demon masquerading as Yorimitsu and succeed in slaying it.

In the afterlife, Tsuna regrets that he was unable to challenge the protagonist to a bout while he was alive. He finally gets his chance when Kintoki brings the protagonist before him once more. Despite ultimately being beaten by the protagonist, Tsuna is grateful to have been able to put up a good fight, and is able to rest in peace.
