Nekomata is a Guardian Spirit in Nioh 2. Guardian Spirits can be selected on the Shrine menu and each provides a different boost to the player. Activate Yokai Shift by pressing + (BY on Xbox/Steam controller) when the Amrita Gauge is full.

Nekomata Description

Japanese myths speak of cats that mysteriously transform upon reaching a ripe old age, gaining the ability to walk on their hind legs, and have their tails split in two. These cats are called "Nekomata" and not only posses magical powers, but also the capacity to understand human speech and communicate their thoughts. For this reason, Nekomata have long had dealings with human civilization, and have protected several generations of Hattori Hanzo. With the Nekomata's tendency to watch silently from the shadows, there is no Guardian Spirit more fitting for a ninja.

How to unlock Nekomata

  • Nekomata is obtained upon advancing into the Twilight chapter.

How to use Nekomata

  • The Guardian Spirit Skill is Nekomata appearing and throwing three lightning traps on the ground which explode in to lightning strikes. If every hit connects it can do large amounts of Ki and lightning damage but each hit also has heavy knockback on normal enemies.
  • This is a very focused guardian spirit, giving you large bonuses to Yokai Ability Damage and then giving you an easy and safe way to fill Anima. This is on top of having the best generic Anima Bonus as a Feral Spirit. This is also a very strong Guardian spirit for Yokai Shift because of it, allowing you to spam your Yokai Abilities very safely for good reward.
