Suzaku is a Guardian Spirit in Nioh 2. Guardian Spirits can be selected on the Shrine menu and each provides a different boost to the player. Activate Yokai Shift by pressing △ + O (B + Y on Xbox/Steam controller) when the Amrita Gauge is full.

Suzaku Description

A Guardian Spirit with fiery plumage, this sacred bird has been worshiped since ancient times as the guardian of the south, the symbol of fire, and a bringer of happiness. In China, Suzaku is often considered to b e the same entity as Ho-oh. There holds a theory that the fiery Ho=oh assumed the name Suzaku when it was first charged with protecting the south. In ancient imperial palaces, such as the one found in Heian-Kyo, the south gate was deemed to be of the greatest importance, and so were named Suzaku Gates in order to invoke the protection of the great guardian of the south. Of the four gods that rule over the cardinal directions, Suzaku is the only one whose name is used for palace gates, indicating just how special it was seen to be.

How to unlock Suzaku

• Complete Side Mission Undying Light. (requires The First Samurai)

How to use Suzaku

• The guardian spirit skill causes Suzaku to fly in a circle where it was cast and crash into the ground, dealing moderate fire damage.
• It has the unique effect to potentially revive you if you would have died if your amrita gauge is full,
• Combined with Ho-oh, you can minimize the damage taken vs. Yokai.
• While it has Burn Accumulation, it has no payoff for setting enemies on fire. Use Ippon-Datara Soul Core and Brilliant Strategem to great effect with the increase in Burn Accumulation.
