Saito is a Clan in Nioh2. Players can pledge their allegiance to a Clan at the Hidden Teahouse to acquire passive Special Effects that affect all Characters linked to the account.
The Saito clan controlled Mino Province (modern-day Gifu prefecture) from its base in Inabayama Castle, Its most prominent leader is Saito Dosan, who was known and feared for his nickname, "the Viper."
Dosan first made a name for himself when he left the capital and became a vassal of the Nagai clan, the family of the acting Military Governor of Mino Province. He later drove the Toki clan out of Mino, overthrowing them to claim the title of daimyo. His daughter, Princess Noh, was married to Oda Nobunaga to form an alliance between the Saito and Oda clans. Dosan was later killed in his retirement after coming into conflict against his own child, Yoshitatsu. After the Oda clan seized Mino, it also absorbed the remnants of the Saito clan and all its surviving retainers.
The clan crest depicts a wave, and was designed by Dosan himself. Dosan is said to have compared man's way of life to the everchanging nature of water, using the encroaching and retreating ebb and flow of the waves to inform his development of tactics on the battlefield.
