Shimazu is a Clan in Nioh2. Players can pledge their allegiance to a Clan at the Hidden Teahouse to acquire passive Special Effects that affect all Characters linked to the account.
The Shimazu clan was based in Satsuma Province (modern-day western Kagoshima prefecture), but their area of influence extended to Osumi (today's eastern Kagoshima) and Hyuga (Miyazaki prefecture). Two of its most noted members are the brothers Shimazu Yoshihisa and Yoshihiro.
After Yoshihisa defeated the Ito clan and successfully unified Satsuma, Osumi, and Hyuga, he began to move northward in hopes of further enlarging his dominion. After defeating the Otomo clan in Mimigawa and the Ryuzoji clan in Okitanawate, the unification of Kyushu was within his reach—but he was defeated by a force dispatched by Toyotomi Hideyoshi. When this happened, Yoshihiro alone refused to give in to the enemy, earning him reverence and the nickname, "Demon Shimazu."
The Shimazu crest consists of a cross enclosed in a circle. In a custom originating from Central Asia before the Kamakura period, drawing a cross was said to protect one from misfortune, leading the cross to be considered a sacred symbol.
