Enenra is a Boss and Enemy in Nioh 2. Enenra is a Smoke and Fire Yokai that attacks with swift fire tornadoes and powerful blows from its large fists.

Enemy Description

Pronounced "EHN-ehn-rah." A yokai composed of smoke and darkness, born from the grudges of humans who met their untimely ends in the Dark Realm. It has no one true form, ever-changing as it drifts through the air. It is said to draw close to its victims by disguising itself amongst the steam and smoke of a bath or hearth in the home.

In spite of its hulking appearance, the Enenra is quick and agile due to its smoky origins. One would be wise to not make the mistake of thinking it slow in movement or mind. It can instantly take on the form of a tornado, pursuing its prey with frightening speed. An Enenra in this form is best avoided, for it advances relentlessly while damaging all in its path.

Enenra is sometimes linked to Emma, the god of hell in Buddhist mythology. It is said to appear in a wreath of hellfire, licked by scorching flames so hot a human would instantly be turned to ash. One wonders if a douse of ice-cold water may be enough to gain the upper hand in the battle against this fiery yokai.

How to Beat Enenra

Enenra Boss Guide:

Enenera can be found in a small square battlefield. There are 4 pillars located on each corner of the area. If you take Enenra near the pillars, his attacks will break them causing him huge Ki damage. This can only be done once per pillar but provides a great opportunity to deplete his Ki and deal a considerable amount of damage.

Its important that you dodge backwards after you perform a grapple attack as he will stand up with an AOE attack.

Enenra is fast and his attacks deal lots of damage. A good strategy is dodging his attacks and staying at a medium distance. When he transforms into a tornado, perform a burst counter and attack him. You can repeat this strategy in both the normal and dark realm.

While in the dark realm, his attacks will be faster and your Ki recovery will be reduced Try to stay away from him and wait for his Tornado Transformation to perform a burst counter.

Attacks & Counters

Attack Counter
Phase 1
Tornado Attack: He will transfrom himself into a tornado and rush towards the player. This is the best opportunity to perform a burst counter and deal a huge amount of Ki damage You can perform the burst counter while he is moving to you.
Tornado Throw: He will throw 5 tornados that will slowly move torwards the player. If they touch you, they will cause damage per second They can be easily avoided by running to another corner of the room
Two-Handed Slam: He will raise both arms and perform a big AOE attack right in front of him dealing massive damage and leaving a yokai pool. This attack can be avoided by jumping backwards. Players can take the chance to deal some damage while he recovers
Three hit combo: He will perform a three hit combo in front of him with his arms Jump backwards and wait for the attack to finish.
Kick: He will use his legs to perform a forward kick. Be careful as this attack has a very long range You can either use your guard or dodge backwards two times
Teleport: He will clap his hands and teleport next to the player. Try to dodge in the opposite direction as he usually performs a quick attack after the teleport
Fire Burst: He will wave his head and generate fire explosion in a wide arc in front of him Try to run behind him when he waves his head and use the opportunity to deal some damage

Such a cool boss design. I mean its a demon made of smoke and ash that summons ash tornadoes and teleports by disintegrating itself!

Love that they give you a bunch of water talismans before you get to the guy as if to say "you gotta douse this upcoming boss"

Ain't no way his twilight mission is only level 25, my level 74 character with 577 defence got nicely obliterated. Also he has barely any weaknesa to water in this version, he just chews on status effects(i.e. lightning) and timing the tornado attack counter no damage is bs. Good luck anyone trying!!!

Thank you to everyone in the comments here. Staying back in low stance and baiting him into water and countering his rushes worked great.

Should not be the 2nd boss of the game, he's an absoulte monster & can easily one-shot you, I even saw him one-shot a lv40 sprite I brought to aid. With no room for error & the fact he can even kill you during a burst if off by one second can be a very frustrating experience

Way way too hard for new players still learning the mechanics of this game. It wouldn't be so bad if the blacksmith wasn't locked behind this boss.

This boss isn't as hard as some people say, but it's certainly not an easy early game boss and won't forgive many mistakes. Here's some tips:

                - Bath in the healing spa just before facing him so you still got the healing effect at the start of the battle.

                - Cast a water amulet before entering the arena and save a couple for the rest of the fight. Fast paced weapons and/or low stance work better.

                - His AoE attacks are easy to avoid if you're on the move and stay at mid range when not delivering hits. Dodge his regular attacks to his side (right side if you can) and don't get greedy hitting him.

                - Lure him to the pilars when his ki bar is about halfway down and dash forward to punish him.

                - This fight will make you master the burst counter. If you ever played Sekiro think about those Ashina guys that forced you to learn deflect. Burst counter windows are actually larger, but you have to mix it up with dodging along the fight and take advantage of his windows. It's like learning a dance.

                - You can keep your LW in the case he's about to kill you or use it when he's out of ki.

                Good luck and keep grinding!

                • Your only windows are the teleport and burst counter
Teleport, just circle around him instead of dodge away, if he does kicks, do few attacks between kicks, if he does swings, just keep circle him and attack after he's done

His attacks are pretty simple if you're patient

Unusually large moveset, which for the sake of anyone struggling with him I will detail here.

He will teleport dash around the arena before launching into a combo, do not attempt to dodge until he has finished teleporting as it is entirely possible to dodge into him rather than away from him and not have any opportunity to avoid his next combo. The teleport moves him into any random space around the player; front, back or sides, rather than a fixed position like behind the player.

His basic combo attack consists of two formulaic patterns, either swings and kicks in a set of around for or five, or two lunging kicks. He pauses briefly after each combo, presenting a brief opportunity to smack him for a little damage.

He has two heavy slam attacks, one that is a jumping slam that damages everything in an area around him, and a forward smash which deals damage in front of him. Both can potentially kill the player in one hit; depending on level, build, and whether or not you're at full health. Both are quite easy to spot as they have fairly long windups, and after they land leave an opening to get in a few more hits.

His ground fire attack casts fire traps in an arc around him either in small numbers close to him, or larger numbers at a distance. If you can dash through to get in some hits you should, as he doesn't perform any other attacks whilst performing this move. However, if you cannot guarantee avoiding the fire, don't try, as they can deal heavy damage and have a high chance of igniting the player.

He will also cast mini fire tornadoes in sets of three of sometimesfive, they move slowly in an expanding arc through the boss arena dealing a lot of damage on hit, and can also ignite the player. Due to their slow movement speed, it is relatively easy to dash around them.

His actual big fire tornado move is very dangerous if it hits you but entirely easy to avoid, just before it is about to hit, either dodge or burst-counter.

He has two conditions for his grab move (as far as I have seen); if you attempt to hug his back, and reforming after using his big fire tornado move if you are still in melee range.

His dark realm phase is very simple, he moves and attacks considerably faster, but his moveset remains the same. He still presents the same openings to deal damage as normal, but the risk is significantly greater.

In his initial arena encounter in the second Main Mission, he can be guided into the supporting pillars, these will drop water onto him and significantly deplete his anima/ki bar, as well as deal considerable damage.

He is vulnerable to water and to purity, these will proc the confused effect quite easily. He is very obviously highly resistant to fire, and also has some fair resistance to lightning.

Tedious more than difficult, the boss that teaches you to burst counter. The main method of breaking him down is breaking his ki, which is hard to do unless you burst counter. Otherwise, because he hits like a freight train, it's just an endurance game of careful evasion and picking moments to get in a few hits.

                      • Anonymous

You can trivialize the fight to an extent by using salt and axe with water talisman. The confused status really helps and delays the dark realm spawn. He's not too tough just hits hard and chances of errors are minimal.

He has weird balancing issues around his difficulty... Excruciatingly painful when you first fight him because you're very limited in the range of actions you can take, his combos are long, vague, and often erratic, and he has an absurd amount of health for an early game boss. Later encounters are still bad, just for different reasons - he's much easier to manage with an expanded moveset and more options to play around with, but he still has a massive health pool and takes a long time to kill without being remotely as threatening. In a word: Attrition.

The cherry on this **** Sunday in that he comes back later as a mini boss.

And he's scaled up again when you meet him. Prepare to hit him 100x again while he tornados once and one shots you.

There is nocatharsis, hes just the most crap boss in Nioh 2 at any player level.

I've killed this boss many many times and know his moveset but he can still kill me whenever he wants. So annoying! A double red flash tornado usually kills me because I burst counter the 1st one but the 2nd one gets me. Or he teleports so I end up squashed against the wall. Or he teleports twice in quick succession and I again end up trapped against the wall.

A challenging boss, but not always for the right reasons.

I'm a long time souls player, I think this game is designed to punish me. My muscle memory probably gets me killed a lot :-\

After 40 or so frustrating attempts, I finally managed to beat Enenra. I also translated what he says after slaying him. Before I post it, should I mark it as a spoiler? I'm new to this wiki.

Instead of wasting your time trying to beat this RIDICULOUSLY OVERPOWERED DAMAGE SPONGE, why not just bang your head against a wall as hard as possible 30 or 40 times? Either will produce the same exact result.

Absolute fcuking bullsiht just like everything else about this game. Challenging is great. I LOVE challenging games. Sorry, but FRUSTRATING does not equal challenging. Sure wish I was invincible during animations like every fcuking enemy in the game. Sure wish I got a surge of unholy strength AND fcuking ki when I get down to a sliver of life like every fcuking enemy in the game.

how do you burst counter when he turns into a tornado? I try to counter and he just pushes me against the wall and I die.

A tip for those struggling with him: I went with odachi+firefox spirit. Used a water talisman, got myself an NPC helper character. Bursted him down in yokai form. Had to fight him in human form maybe for 5 sec.
The running around strategy just did not work for me.

                                        • Anonymous

Little cheese if he Teleports just run around him closely (only the left direction works) for his attacks only the fires mines are dangerous with this tactic :D

                                          • Anonymous

If you can get Enenra to crash through the supports in the arena, water will fall on him, dealing penalties to his fire-based attributes. Keep moving and look for an opening after his kick attacks.

                                            • Anonymous

I find low stance is useful against him. Quick attacks and good ki restoration allows you to deal good damage while dodging his heavy attacks.
