Dweller is an Enemy in Nioh 2. Dweller is a zombie-like, rotting Yokai that attacks with hammers or other weapons usually found in mines. Dwellers are found since the early missions of Nioh 2.

Enemy Description

  • Dwellers are humans turned into yokai by the foul miasma in the depths of a mine. They were objects of loathing and terror for miners, and legends about them circulate wherever a mine with a long history is found. Their grotesquely altered forms inspire instinctive revulsion in all who can bear to view them.
  • The pickaxe carried by many Dwellers is the last trace of their former lives as miners. The sight of a Dweller swinging its pickaxe wildly as they attack is unsettling enough, but one without its axe is even more terrifying. In this state, they abandon all pretense to humanity, scrabbling on all fours and leaping at intruders like savage beasts.

Dweller Locations & Drops

Combat Information

  • Leaping attack - A leaping attack straight at the player with both arms swinging. Dodge to either side.
  • Poison Breath - A stream of poison in a horizontal sweep. Dodge to either side. Yokai is especially vulnerable to attacks from behind.
  • Pickax swing - The yokai will take its pickaxe and swing either vertically or horizontally. Vertical attacks have a long wind up, leaving the yokai vulnerable to attacks from behind.
  • Frenzy - Attack is similar to the attack granted by its Yokai Core. The pickaxe will be swung vertically multiple times. Avoid or sneak around to attack from behind.
  • Leaping Grapple - The yokai jumps at the player and will bash the player on the head with a rock.
  • Stumbling Grapple - The yokai will stumble at the player and will vomit poison breath on them should it connect.

Notes & Trivia

  • Kanji: Yomikata - Lore description.
  • Memories - “Keep digging, deeper and deeper… Uncover those shining stones!”

Easiest way to get the title for beating one bare-handed is just going to the Beast of Smoke and Flames mission. It doesn't matter if you're severely overleveled. The title registers either way.
