Enki is an Enemy in Nioh 2. Enki is a monkey-type Yokai that uses fast and agile attacks with its spear allowing it to leap and reach its prey even from afar.

Enemy Description

  • An Enki is a monkey that has been transformed by Amrita into a Yokai after a lifetime of cruelty and abuse by humans. The imposingly large and intelligent yokai has a single horn on its head is said to be the source of its power. This horn differentiates Enki from the other simian yokai known as Hihi, said to originate from monkeys that have lived an incredibly long life. Monkeys have long been considered mountain gods or messengers of the mountain gods in legends all over Japan. While these gods can bring blessings, they are also terrifying reminders of the indomitable might of the mountains that tower over mankind. The monkeys that live in these divine surroundings are both so alike and unlike humans that they might be the most familiar connection to the spirit world we have.
  • The famous collections of tales known as the Konjaku Monogatari and Uji Shui Monogatari (of the late Heian and Kamakura periods respectively) also contain stories of simian yokai and their antagonistic encounters with humans. One of the most famous tales recounts the story of Ozaru, a mountain god in Mimasaka Province (known today as Okayama Prefecture). The people of Mimasaka had a custom of offering a young girl to Ozaru as a sacrifice. Hearing this, a hunter volunteered to take the girl's place and lay wait for Ozaru with his two hunting dogs. When Ozaru finally showed up with its own monkey underlings, the hunter sprang and held his mark down while his dogs tore into Ozaru's underlings. A frightened Ozaru begged for forgiveness and vowed to never demand a sacrifice again. It is said this vow has never been broken.
  • An Enki has the ability to handle human tools with ease. They have been known to use spears in battle, presumably weapons that were stolen from human owners. These spears are often thrown at their enemies, so one would be wise to keep this in mind if taking on an Enki from a distance. This is not the only danger they pose- they were once monkeys, after all, and can, therefore, take giant leaps toward their enemies. They have been known to hang from branches and buildings, waiting to ambush unsuspecting human passerby. Be sure to stay vigilant when entering an Enki's domain!

Enki Locations & Drops

Combat Information

  • Attacking an Enki's horn causes massive Ki damage and stuns the creature briefly. High Stance with most weapons will tend to hit the horn consistently.
  • Leaping Grab - The yokai will grab the player with its paw after a short wind up. The yokai will stomp on the player 3 times causing lots of damage. Enki's grab tracks the player very well. making it an ill-advised strategy to dodge past the creature to avoid it. Dodge away to ensure a safe distance.
  • Spear Throw - The yokia will plant and climb up its spear before firing the spear at the player. The attack is similar to the skill used with its Yokai Core. After the spear is thrown, the yokai will dismount and roll forward, leaving it open for attacking.
  • Spear Slam - The yokai will slam its spear onto the ground vertically 2 times. In the Dark Realm, the yokai will slam the spear 2 times, then pause before another 2 slams.
  • Body Slam - The yokai will jump high and body slam the player. Burst Attack!
  • Frenzy - The yokai will attack with a frenzy of spear slams and swings. Burst Attack!
  • Tantrum - The yokai will leap at the player and land on its back. While laying down, the spear is swung in multiple directions making it difficult to predict its movements.

When you first encounter these things, just stay back and learn the timing on it's jump spear throw and roll grab. Dodge sideways get a few hits in when it lands/comes to you as it stays idle for a second after these moves. They have a lot of nasty close range combos that come out fast and hit hard/multiple times but just keep your distance and hit run these two moves they become a lot less of a hassle.

Beware of their grab attack! Distance yourself quickly rather than try to dodge it, as it has great tracking.
