The Viper and the Butterfly
Mission Start Text
Might I ask a favor of you?
In Inabayama Castle there is something, a gift from my father, Master Dosan, that I would very much like you to retrieve. Since the conflict with the Saito clan broke out, I have been unable to recover it. But with your help perhaps I can finally be reunited with this precious item.
Mission End Text
I remember when I handed this dagger back to my father, unable to do with it what he had asked of me. How strange that I should hold it in my hands once again...
I am indebted to you and wish to give you my switchglaive as a token of my gratitude. If you deem Lord Nobunga as worthy of your loyalty, then take this weapon and let it serve you well in your duties. But should you think of him as a fool, well, in that case, use it to... No! That is enough! Please ignore my childish japes!

The Viper and the Butterfly Walkthrough
Once the mission starts, you'll see the first shrine and follow the path ahead where you'll run into a Gaki. It's the only path that you can take from the starting area. For the path ahead, there's a dark realm, while on the incline that's on your right, there's another Gaki feeding on a corpse that you can loot, before going in the dark realm, you'll want to head up the incline and clear the area first of Yokai enemies and search the area for loot - at the top of the incline, you'll find another Gaki and a Koroka disguised as a stone lantern by the narrow path ahead.
Also, just by the incline, there's a Nurikabe wall on the left side. Behind it, you'll find the Spa (Hot Spring) for this mission. Try using the "Backflip" Gesture for it to reveal the room behind it without fighting it.
Go straight towards the narrow path where you'll encounter more Yokai ahead such as Nure-Onna, Gaki, Snowclops, Yoki, Biwa-Boku-boku that summons an Oni-bi, and a Karasu Tengu. From where the Snowclops was standing, there's a ladder on the right side which you can kick down to open up a shortcut. loot all the bodies that are on the narrow path and head towards where the Karasu Tengu is patrolling, at the end of the path where the Karasu Tengu was, there's a ladder that you can climb to reach the watchtower where you'll find a large chest - after opening it, jump back down to the starting point where the shrine is and head down the same path, towards the entrance of the dark realm.
Inside the dark realm, there are two Gaki and a large chest inside the house in front of you. You can only open the chest if the dark realm is gone. One Gaki is feeding on a corpse that you can loot, and one is by the corner at the left side. Kill the yokai in the house and go down the path where you'll encounter two more Gaki.
Now, by the gate, ready your bow and aim above you. You'll see an Aberrant Soldier hanging on a tree, waiting to ambush you if you're not careful and you walk underneath it. After killing it, walk down a bit and you'll see a Gaki that's standing on a cliff ahead of you and another walking back and forth on the ground. From afar, you can shoot it down with your ranged weapons. Once you reach the end of the path, you'll see another Gaki and an Aberrant Soldier around a corpse that you can loot and the source of the dark realm which is the Yamanba that's patrolling the area. Wait for the Yamanba to walk away from the two busy yokai, then when it's safe, shoot the Gaki first on the head to (hopefully) kill it with one shot, then draw out the Aberrant Soldier away from the Yamanba so you can focus on killing this one first. After you've killed the first two, you can kill the Yamanba to dispel the dark realm - after that's done, there are some wooden planks on the left where you'll find another large chest that you can open, then go back up to the house and open the chest inside of it.
Prison Cells
Once you've opened both chests, continue forward and just up ahead, you'll find the second shrine for this mission. After praying at the shrine, continue down the path and you'll encounter a Nure-Onna roaming around, there's also a nearby corpse that you can loot.
Now, you'll find yourself back inside the prison cells of the castle and you'll find a small room that's blocked. Once you step inside, a wave of yokai will appear and you'll have to survive and kill each one so that you can proceed further. After surviving the gauntlet, you'll want to head back to the shrine and heal up. Go back to the prison cells and proceed to the next section where you'll face a revenant which is the mini-boss of this mission - successfully defeating it will complete the mission, as well as obtaining a new Guardian Spirit: Usura-Hicho. The round beam will be in the next room that lets you leave the mission.

if you're farming for the Sasayuki smiting text, it's easy to just run straight past all the enemies untul you hit the Yamanba with the shrine. Run to the shrine and she'll be the only one following. Kill her to dispel the dark realm, rest at the shrine in case you die, and run past the snake lady until just before you enter the cells, buff up if your build uses any and go in.

(ugh) This is why I'm super hesitant to do side missions. They get pretty cheap.
The revenant actually spawns during the yokai waves, so you cant leave to heal
